Is it common for “Psychologists” to use “hypnosis” to learn more about a patients hidden past?
Well I’m seeing a Psychologist and I feel like I am not able to tell all of the information that I want to tell due to the fact that my memory cannot remember certain important details of my past, that may be vital for the psychologist to fully understand my case.
Do you think If I were to mention to the psychologist hypnosis, would it be uncommon for it to be performed ?
How would I go about uncovering “hidden” details ?

Hmm…well being a psych major you’d think I would know but I’m not entirely sure. I do know that when someone has a phobia, psychologists try and figure out what traumatic event happened in their past that they’re usually not aware of to help them out. So I guess it could be possible to use some sort of method to bring out repressed memories (if that’s what you’re implying by important details).

I don’t think is is “commonly” used by most psychologists, but there are hypnotherapists who use hypnosis for all kinds of reasons, my brother had regression therapy with a hypnotherapist–it truly helped him, but not all psychologist/psychiatrist are trained in this area.

Some therapists specialize in it, most do not. I was actually able to release traumatic events from my childhood that happened when I was too young to remember them through hypnosis. I went to a professional who specialized in hypnotherapy. I could actually recommend someone to you the next time you’re in the South lol.
It involves a LOT of trust, because getting into the subconscious level of our psyche puts us in a vulnerable place. However, I believe it has changed me for the better and stopped habits and behaviors that were caused by events that happened before I could remember them, thus regular therapy would have done very little.
You may or may not have visual memories, my memories were visceral and emotional, although he still took me back to the time/place it happened, mentally.
Good luck finding a hypnotherapist!

I think you should suggest this to them. If they say they don’t have that option available, you could ask if they have anything for your type of situation that might help you remember.

A psychologist gets about a day and a half of training in hypnosis. A hypnotherapist usually gets at least a year. Typically a psychologist may use hypnosis once a month, perhaps twice. A hypnotherapist will work with five to eight clients a day. I’ll let you decide which you think may know more about hypnosis.
If the past is hidden by choice, hypnosis is unlikely to help. If it is subconsciously repressed, then yes, hypnosis can certainly be used to discover it. Just keep pone thing in mind; if it is hidden, it may be hidden for a good reason.
The mind blocks out some things because they serve no purpose. Remembering the moment of impact in a bad car accident is quite rare. Most people ‘lose’ that moment. It’s traumatic and has no future use. Re experiencing a trauma in hypnosis may be as traumatic as the original event, so think real hard before you chose to go down this route. One can certainly use hypnotherapy to learn more about ones past and learn from it; just be careful what you wish for.

No, it is very uncommon. The use of hypnosis in recalling memories has been very questionable because people who have under went hypnosis to remember began having false memories. It isn’t considered credible so it isn’t used very often at all. I wouldn’t trust anyone enough to allow them to have control over my mind, they could either create false memories accidentally or even worse on purpose.

Your mind is extremely powerful. It is capable of doing millions of things every second. The problem with that is a million things every second is too much for the conscious mind to process.
That means our unconscious mind does things automatically. You don’t have to tell your heart to beat, it just will. Other people can trigger certain psychological points and your mind will automatically respond in a certain way. For example, if I scare you, you’ll pump adrenalin into the blood.
I think there“s nothing you can do if you put yourself in his hands
