One of my friends and I are really interested in learning hypnosis. We’re both really smart and thus we have a knack of reading people (which, if I’m not mistaken, could come in handy with hypnosis). Could it be possible for the two of us to learn and hypnotize people?

Take a class. The National Guild of Hypnotists offers sanctioned classes. The classes aren’t long, only about 100 hours. They’ll teach you all the basics in those classes. There are also advanced classes if you really like it.
You might also want to look into Neuro-Linguistics or Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP).
